Welcome to Skyway Elementary School, home of the Rockets!
We are starting our second year of operation.  This last year was very productive as we opened Skyway and introduced new procedures and practices to make each student feel success.  I continue to enjoy the opportunity to interact with all of the students and parents.  We have an amazing school with a committed staff and very supportive PTO.  We are excited to begin a new school year!

Skyway is a Pre K-5th grade elementary school. Skyway became the seventh elementary school in the Vallivue School District.  Our school continues to grow each year as this year we will gain 100 new students from a boundary change.  We will be the largest elementary school in the Vallivue District with an anticipated population of 740 students.

Our school creates and maintains a nurturing and supportive learning environment for all students.  Skyway establishes high behavior and academic standards for every child.  We continually recognize and support students’ individual academic and social needs as well as celebrating their achievements.  Our students participate in differentiated instructional groups to maximize learning opportunities and promote student achievement, proficiency and growth.

The staff at Skyway uses a collaborative model for goal setting and planning instruction.  They bring experience and expertise to the classroom and are continually furthering their own education.  The constant review of achievement data and discipline patterns to improve school performance are an integral part of our school culture.  The staff makes deliberate efforts to provide students a safe, friendly, and encouraging learning environment.  We are committed to maintaining a school that is safe and secure.  Safety drills are carefully and routinely practiced.  Bully proofing instruction and activities are provided across grade levels.

We are continuing to implement a program for our first through fifth grade students.  This program is called AVID – Advancement via Individual Determination.  AVID provides students with academic skills, organizational tools, and content knowledge, and at the same time, develop an educational environment for individual student learning and social adaptability.  This year, we are expanding AVID to our kindergarten students.

We emphasize character education at Skyway.  An ongoing goal for our school and district is to find ways to recognize students for success in academic and social areas.  Each month we focus on a specific character trait.  At the end of the month, we celebrate and recognize students for outstanding effort in citizenship, academic and AVID.  Our students are well behaved, eager to learn, and the focus of our decision making.  Positive behavior interventions along with character education set and reinforce expectations for appropriate behavior.  We also recognize students for consistency with attendance.

Our families are very important to our school.  We encourage each parent to get involved in our school and work with us to make sure we are providing the best learning experience possible.  We welcome parent volunteers and hope that many of you will visit our school.

One of the great strengths of Skyway is our newly organized PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization).  Our PTO meets monthly to discuss volunteer programs that make our school run more efficiently.  This organization along with our teachers spend a good deal of time and effort working on programs/events that have a positive impact meeting social, emotional, and academic needs of our students.

We look forward to a wonderful 2018-2019 school year.  If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact the school at any time.  We welcome the communication!
